It perhaps wasn't the best of times to make your first team debut, coming off the bench when your team are 1-3 down but the supporters at Spotland who saw the Hereford game will have gone away from it knowing that in Will Buckley we have a player for the future.

He looked very comfortable with the step up to the first team environment, showed an excellent touch, a good turn of pace and the confidence to take and use the ball. We have featured Will on this site before but for those of you who don't know his story he was actually spotted by the club at Hopwood College and offered a scholarship for this season. He made a great start by joining in with the first team friendlies and finding the net but suffered with growth pains in the earlier part of the season and has only really been back on regular Youth team duty since around Christams time.

His regular coach Chris Beech was " pleased with and for Will. He took things in his stride by doing the sort of things that we try to do every day in training and in games. Both our strikers have had a taste of first team action now with Ben Wharton getting his chance at Accrington and the experience will serve them both well. It is our aim to introduce as much local talent as we can to the first team environment and hopefully these two, and Raphale Evans who is regularly called up into the first team environment will be the first of many over the coming years."
