We are very pleased to announce that 21 year old central defender Rory McArdle has today signed a contract extension that commits him to the club until the summer of 2010.

The Dale defender spoke exclusively to Rochdaleafc.co.uk and admitted he was pleased to put pen to paper.

"I'd say I'm delighted rather than pleased to have signed and to be honest I don't know why anyone would want to leave this football club.  We are certainly moving forward and for me to commit my future to Rochdale was an easy ask.

"I believe my best years are ahead of me and I'd love to have them here at Spotland.  Keith Hill and Dave Flitcroft have been fantastic and I'd like to put on record my thanks to them."

Pictured above scoring the opening goal in the Wembley Play off Final Rory originally joined the club on loan from Sheffield Wednesday in August 2005 and after a further loan spell made the move permanent in January 2007. He has made a total of 97 appearances in Dale colours scoring 4 goals and during his time at Spotland has become a fixture not only in the Rochdale side but in Northern Irelands Under 21 as well.
