As we revealed on Friday midfielder Ciaran Toner has today put pen to paper on a one year contract and is now itching to meet his new teammates when they come back to begin pre season training on Saturday.

" The team did very well last season and it is unfortunate that they didn't progress up to League 1level. It is always a lottery when you get to the final and it will have been disappointing to lose at Wembley but the players can take real heart from the way that they performed last year and look forward to pushing on this time around.Hopefully I can help us to get up there be it by the Play off's again or by automatic promotion"

" I know from facing Rochdale last year that this is a very young squad and for me that is great. There is obviously a bright future here with young up and coming players who are going to get more experience as the seasons go on. I can bring some pretty good experience to the squad and hopefully that will help."

" I do like to play good football and that was an important aspect in my decision to come here. Fans everywhere like to see attractive entertaining football and Rochdale have an excellent reputation where that is concerned. I want to come and help the club move up. What you will find with me is that I always give 100% and as long as I do that there is no reason why I can't succeed here."

" I was very impressed with the style of play when I came here with Grimsby last season and I am really looking forward to being part of it. As a midfielder it always great to have options when you are on the ball and I am sure that the style of play here will really suit me."

" Though I haven't played in this area before I only live in Rotherham which isn't too far away and I have got family in Manchester so I am no stranger to the north west. It will obviously be a challenge but I can't wait to get started"

Ciaran has been allocated the squad number 6
