Re Sky Coverage
Posted on: Mon 12 May 2008
Following comments made in some quarters by Rochdale supporters the Press office at the club has today (Sunday) been in contact with the Producer of Saturdays Sky coverage of the Darlington v Rochdale Play off semi final 1st leg.
It would appear that supporters were not happy with the choice of " pundits" in the studio with one of them Robbie Blake being a former Darlington player and the other being a north eastener as well, Peter Beagrie. Certain supporters were also concerned about the " little unfashionbale Rochdale" tag once again rearing it's ugly head.
With regards to the " pundits" the Producer said that Blake was an obvious choice having played in Play off matches for Darlington and that Beagrie was the regular expert on lower league football with instructions on the day to lean towards Rochdale in the interest of balance. He pointed out the very nice things said not only by Beagrie but by Blake as well about the likes of Adam le Fondre and Chris Dagnall and stressed that the coverage on the day was fair.We have though suggested that Sky even things up next weekend and have also suggested suitable people for the role of studio pundit.
With regards to our fashionable or otherwise status the Sky representative said Keith Hill in his pre match interview referred to over achieving this season on more than one occasion and that they simply followed his lead.
Sky have been very good with us this season ,with their coverage of us on the Big League Weekend far outstripping many clubs at our level and they have assured us that their coverage on the day was, and will continue to be fully balanced. Our relationship with Sky and indeed with all the broadcasting media is good but is one that we are always strive to improve. Having said though we will always be strong enough to voice our concerns as we have at this time.
