Rochdale slipped to 15th in the table after a smash and grab raid by Stockport County thanks to Jermaine Easter's first half beauty.

Dale boss Steve Parkin blasted his side following the defeat in his post match comment saying his side lacked the desire of a side looking for points.

The departure of striker Grant Holt opened the way for youngster Clive Moyo-Modise  and he was given his first start of the campaign.

The game started with Rochdale setting a good tempo, but following a couple of efforts on the County goal the visitors took the lead after eight minutes in fine style.

Jermaine Easter with his back to goal looped an overhead kick over Gilks and into the back of the net.

Rochdale still enjoyed plenty of the ball but failed to create any clear cut openings let alone test 'keeper James Spencer.

Dale closest effort of the half fell to Paul Tait who collected the ball with his back to goal and did very well to turn, but his low shot on the spin was deflected wide of the target.

Rochdale manager Steve Parkin replaced Warren Goodhind with Lee Cartwright on the right hand side.

Dale looked to start the half with a little more tempo, but it was the visitors who almost doubled their lead as Dale were left woefully short at the back.  A cross from the left found the head of an unmarked Keith Briggs and his looping header was saved well by Gilks who slipped as he made his way across his goal.

New signing Chris Dagnall replaced Paul Tait on 65 minutes and the move from the Dale management lifted the mood amongst the almost silent home support.

Dale's attacking line-up looked all the better for the move too with  an injection of energy that seem to trouble the County rearguard and for the first time Rochdale brought a save from Spencer.

It was a save too that came from the top drawer as Goodall glanced a Rickie Lambert corner goalwards and somehow the Dale defender's header was stiff-armed away by Spencer.

A minute later Stockport were gifted the opprtunity of doubling their lead after referee Mr Swarbrick believed a very suspicious fall in the box by Hamshaw and the referee pointed to the spot despite strong protests.

Justice was done when Hamshaw picked himself and fired a poor penalty over the crossbar.

Sadly though for all the possesion from Steve Parkin's side they failed to find a way past Spencer and a vital win for rock-bottom Stockport stretches the winless run of Dale.

 Clive Moyo-Modise

 Jermaine Easter

It was hard to pick out any one from todays display, but Moyo-Modise showed plenty of energy and a willingness to run from the first whistle to the last.

Terrorised the Dale defence until he was taken off late in the second half.  Scored the only goal of a drab encounter though it's one he'll cherish for years to come.

Managers Comments in Brief

Steve Parkin

 Jim Gannon

"We played like it didn't matter about the result, like a team three games from the end of the season with nothing to play for."

"You have to play to your teams strengths and the other teams weaknesses and we did that today."
