With a tough match in prospect, Dale's young team were dealt a hammer blow

4 minutes into the game when City's captain broke through to slide the ball into the far corner for the opening goal.

Dale responded well with Lizzie Paul, Lizzy Hamer and Zoe Cooney driving the team forward and pressing City back. For the next fifteen minutes an equaliser looked inevitable, but City broke away and made it 2-0.
Undeterred, Dale drove forward again with Ashley Grindrod and Fiona Reddin combining well on the left flank, and Sophie Barton and Anna Genders causing problems on the right.

Coral O'Keefe worked tirelessly up front to pressurise the City defence, but Dale could not get the breakthrough they deseved. Once again City countered, and two further goals before the break made Dale's task almost impossible.

Dale started the second half determined to show what they were capable of, and once again took the game to City. The game was being played at a terrific pace with Dale playing well but unable to breach City's defence.
No quarter was being given with Danielle Thorpe, Jenny Ashton and Daniella Walsh tackling like tigers, and Rhianne Ward Hilton and Candice Mather chasing City down at every opportunity. Coral O'Keefe and Lizzie Paul both went close before City pressed Dale back, and, having made a string of good saves, keeper Beth Walsh had no chance with City's fifth and final goal.

Although beaten by a strong and powerful City team, Dale can take a lot of credit for a good team performance and some outstanding football, from which they can build upon in the future.
